Welcome to the CUMC and CUCO website. We are proud to announce our 2007/8 season featuring many amazing performers. CUCO is Cambridge University’s leading orchestra. It is undoubtedly one of the finest groups of its kind in the country, and many of its members go on to pursue careers in the performing world. A different professional conductor is invited to work with the orchestra for each of its five major concerts every season, as well as a distinguished concerto soloist. Attracting the best of Cambridge University’s musical talent, the orchestra works intensively for a week-long period in preparation for each concert, achieving focus and the highest possible standard.
Enjoying a national reputation, CUCO is renowned for its ability to tackle a wide range of chamber orchestra repertoire from the Baroque period to the present day. Last season, CUCO was involved in a project combining Haydn and Shostakovich with music and dance from the Brazilian Capoeira tradition. With a new committee every year, CUCOis a dynamic and versatile organisation.
The next two CUCO seasons will feature conductors including Peter Stark (Principal Guest Conductor), Neil Thomson and Alexander Polianichko. Future soloists include Thomas Gould (violin), Matthew Rose (bass), Tom Poster (piano), Philip Dukes (viola) and Rob Buckland (saxophone).
The Cambridge University Music Club is devoted to encouraging the appreciation and performance of chamber music at the highest level. It has a long and illustrious history since being founded in 1889, and past members have included eminent figures such as Ralph Vaughan-Williams and Sir David Willcocks.
